Old TVs and Computers Can't Go in the Trash in PA

That old tube TV in the basement can’t just be set out at the curb. Pennsylvania’s Covered Device Recycling Act has banned TVs, computers, monitors, laptops, tablets and e-readers, plus computer peripherals like keyboards and printers, from household trash since January 2013. They have to be recycled.

Finding a drop-off and loading a 150-pound console TV is a hassle. JUNKED. carries out your old electronics and hauls them away.

Electronics We Pick Up

We take:

  • Tube (CRT) TVs, including big console and rear-projection sets
  • Flat-screen LCD, LED and plasma TVs
  • Desktop computers, laptops and tablets
  • Monitors, keyboards, mice and printers
  • Stereos, speakers, DVD players and gaming systems
  • Office phones and smaller IT equipment

Have something bigger, like an office copier or server rack? Call or send photos and we’ll confirm before we come out.

Protect Your Data First

Before handing over any device that stores information:

  • Back up anything you want to keep.
  • Wipe computers, tablets and phones, or pull the hard drives and keep them. We don’t offer data destruction.
  • Sign out of streaming and cloud accounts on smart TVs, then do a factory reset.
  • Unmount wall TVs if you want the wall left a certain way, or ask us to take the mount too.

Why Electronics Need Extra Care

Electronics contain lead, mercury and other materials that shouldn’t end up in a landfill, along with recoverable copper, steel and aluminum. That’s why Pennsylvania requires covered devices to be recycled instead of thrown in the trash.

If a TV or computer still works, you can sell it, give it to someone who needs it or offer it to a donation center first. If you have questions about how your electronics will be handled after pickup, ask when you call.
